Algae Print Pastes
This collection is ongoing and focuses on developing new print pastes and recipes out of algae and seaweed as part of an investigation into detoxifying the screen printing process. The aim is to create a range of colours and binders made with 100% algae, moving away from toxic dyes and plastic binders harmful for our environment.
Indigo
Recognising the need for more eco-friendly screen printing pastes, this collection focuses on developing a range of indigo screen printing pastes and recipes. The final fabric is both dyed and screen printed with indigo, and then hand made into a dress following a pre-made pattern.
Bioplastic Jacket
The Bioplastic Jacket is 100% biodegradable and zero waste. The garment pattern has been adapted from a 1980s Vogue pattern and altered to make it zero waste, it is then handmade using a biodegradable material to construct it without sewing.
Bodies
This collection began in 2018 as a response to how women’s bodies have been over sexualised and subject to the male gaze throughout art history. Today we face censorship and lack of representation of marginalised bodies in modern day media. Whilst women around the world are fighting for bodily autonomy, battling against gender based street harassment and supporting movements such as ‘me too’, this collection forms series of artworks relating to these struggles and creating representations. Marketed to both protest banners and fashion, this collection asks for change. One of these banners was chosen to be displayed at Falmouth Art Gallery from December to January 2018-19. A second piece was selected by Falmouth University to be made into a 60s style dress. The print highlights the 62% of students who experience sexual violence on college campuses. This collection has now morphed into a celebration of all body types of all genders and is an ongoing project, currently taking the form of life drawing via zoom calls.
